Homeless Guests finding shelter at HARTS
The shelter opened Nov. 14th, to a warm Fall evening. During the first week we had an average of 18 homeless guests register for shelter. We were prepared for our maximum number of 40 guests. Otterbein United Methodist Church and Church of Jesus Christ of LDS were Hosts for the week.
Second week Nov. 21 – 28 the shelter was located at Blessed Sacrament Church. Hosts for the week was Grace Covenant Church with assistance from Valley Church of Christ. We sheltered an average of 28 guests Thanksgiving week.
Third week Nov. 28 – Dec 5 the shelter was at First Presbyterian – Cooks Creek and Trinity Presbyterian Churches were shelter Hosts for the week. During the week we averaged 31 guests. A total of 47 different homeless people used the shelter during the week and 15 of them were new shelter guests.
To date we have registered a total of 51 individual homeless guests who have stayed at the shelter this winter.
As the weather continues to get colder many people are leaving their tents, abandoned buildings and cars, finding that our shelter is warmer and safer. Homeless guests are in need of hats, gloves, scarves — and our supplies are extremely low.
We appreciate your donations of supplies, your volunteer time and your financial support — Thank you.
